Can you take wine through as carry on baggage ?

We will be flying from Sydney to Hamilton Island and I just assumed that we would not be able to take any liquid as carry on (other than the 100ml allowance) however, I seem to be reading conflicting info.

So, If I were to buy a couple of bottles of wine in Sydney, Can it go in your hand luggage ? or will it have to be in your cases & checked in ?

Not sure if it makes any difference but we will be flying with Virgin Blue. Not keen on packing bottles in cases to check in. Am sure it would be a disaster !!!

Thanks

There are no liquid restrictions for domestic flights. You can definitely carry your wine on board.

You will, however, need to take any aerosol cans (ie. deoderant etc) out of your carry on luggage for separate screening. When it's passed through the machine, just put it back in your bag.

this site tells u all u need to know.

just watch the weight factor. a bottle of wine weighs around 1.25kg (depending on how mean or generous the producer is about bottle quality)

You can always wrap some clothing around the bottle and place it in the middle of your checked luggage. It should be okay as an alternative

Imagine if a bottle of red wine broke in your checked luggage.

Maybe not such a good idea.

Try breaking a full bottle of wine or try filling up a wine bottle with water. It is not a very easy thing to do and the chances of a wrapped up bottle of wine getting broken in the middle of a suitaces surrounded by soft clothes is very minimal even allowing for the way bags get thrown around the airport

I've lost count of the times I've put bottles of wine in my checked in baggage without a problem.

If it worries you, buy some wine in a box-Lindemans bin 65 I think is still a reasonable drop packaged that way. I'm ready to be corrected...

Re checked luggage with wine - I have flown with wine wrapped in clothing all over the world and have never had a bottle broken. Soft sided suit case as well.
