A day sightseeing by train.

I will be in Sydney for a few days in August. Can you suggest some enjoyable day trips we can do by train?

The most logical one is uo to the Blue Mountains. You can also head down to Cronulla and get the ferry across to Bundeena

Are you travelling with children? If so, you could use the family funday pass. This link gives some ideas for using that ticket, but if you're not travelling with kids or are travelling on another day it might give you some ideas anyway.

Another enjoyable train day trip is the south coast line to Kiama (about 2 hours 30 each way). Some great scenery through the Royal National Park and along the coastline north of Wollongong, pretty coastal town of Kiama to have lunch, fossick in the shops and make a pilgrimage to the lighthouse and blowhole

The trip to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains is a must. Also, catch the train to Woy Woy (have you heard of Spike Milligan? - his home town. As he said, 'why it is called Woy Woy, I will never know')) and have a seafood lunch on the wharf, almost across the road from the railway station. But why limit yourself to trains? Sydney is a city on the best harbour in the world - perhaps a ferry ride to Manly, or to Watson's Bay, or to Taronga Zoo, or to Hunters Hill via Cockatoo Island (get off there and explore it - magical!) would be more appropriate. Or even the train to Hawkesbury River and then climb aboard the Riverboat Postman's boat to see the Hawkesbury River.

Thank you everyone .

There are some great ideas you've given us. I like your suggestion of Cronulla and the Bundeena ferry. Also Kiama, the Hawksbury River and Woy Woy sound tempting. While we have already explored the Blue Mountains another visit would still be an enjoyable thing to do.

As well, I will look up the ideas offered by the Family Funday ticket.
