Sydney on a Budget - tips/ideas?

My upcoming Sydney week-long holiday in July, is going to have to be done on a tight budget. Basically had to pay for flights twice (original flights were cancelled, still waiting for the refund and had to rebook the flights).

Does anyone know of any specials/deals for anything/everything to do with holidaying in Sydney, including attractions and meals (possibly discounts at attractions, specials on particular days at restaurants)?

Thanks in advance :)

www.travelzoo.com/au/local-deals/Sydney

Try the above website, it's very similar to GrabOne in NZ.

Hi,

I can help with budget meals.

Pubs generally offer good deals - plenty to choose frm in the CBD and a main meal can be had for AUD10 for so.

The big food court under Myer clears out around 4pm or so, possibility of getting discounted food there.

The food courts in China Town (Dixon St, Paddys Market) offer meals at very reasonable prices.

Discounts at attractions, Google seesydneypass - this allows u to visit multiple attractions at 1 fixed price.

Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly - scenic n not very expensive.

Walk around the Rocks & Opera House - free.

Take the 555 bus that shuttles u round the major streets in the CBD.

get a day pass on the transport system. In one day we walked to the ferry area, took the ferry to Manly, walked to the beach, saw stuff, cafes, shops etc, then back on ferry to circular quay. changed ferries and went up river as far as Paramatta - really just for the river cruise! Back into central Sydney by train, then train and bus to Bondi, walked along beach and around area etc. caught bus up to top of harbour, then ferry back to circular quay. very good value for money. Not suggesting you have to follow this itinerary, but get some maps and plan your own day.

Another day we walked all round central area - Darling Harbour, circular Quay, Opera House, Botanic Gardens etc

If you are prepared for a bit of walking it is certainly cheap!

One of the best experiences in Sydney is the Bondi to Coogee cliff-top walk; spectacular scenery all the way, with 5 different beaches you can stop off at for a swim, and all absolutely free!

Get a week's pass for all public transport, which is incredible value compared with individual sightseeing boats or buses. Twice now we've had a few hours to kill before heading to the airport to return home and just ridden the Manly ferry out and back without getting off, also went all the way up-river to Parramatta. Effectively these were freebies as we were already quids-in on journeys we did when getting off to do something.
