Never heard of them ... but looking at your Avatar I can't help but wonder if you are advertising this service ...
I wouldn't assume that Darran L is advertising this service - he has asked some other questions about Sydney, and seems to be a genuine traveller and regular Tripadvisor user.
@DougoOz: @Selsy is right, I am not advertising their services in case you are mistaken. Just wanted to get some feedback on them as I am visiting Sydney sometime next month.
@SpencerBenjamin: Thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately, Sun Studios and The Front do not have the lens I am looking for - the Nikon 80-400mm.
I was merely wondering ... read my post again ... there was no accusation made.
Why don't you simply buy the lens ? I know they aren't cheap but at least it would be yours.
$1400 on EBay ain't cheap.
I'd buy it if it was what I wanted and was going to last for years.
IMO, if you have a good camera and have spent $$ on it, then get the lens that you need to shoot the photos you want.
Hiring lenses is quite a common practice. Most photographers do buy several lenses to cover subjects they commonly shoot, but may hire lenses to cover the less usual occasions, particularly where the lens happens to be a really expensive one. Ted's price for that lens is just on $2000, a lot to pay if it's not one a photographer would regularly use.
I'm aware of the cost of lens and the price of a "good" camera, and I also know that there is a good second hand market from reputable stores too.
You did wonder why Darran didn't simply didn't buy the lens, and I've attempted to provide an answer above as to why Darran, me, and other photographers occasionally hire lenses. Obviously everybody's financial choices and circumstances are different.
