shopping today+ tomorrow morning in markets for local art

I have ended up in Sydney for today/friday the 15h and tomorrow/sat the 16th until noon.

I am working so can not stray too far from the city, but would love to go to a market to look for local art/paintings/jewelery/etc .

I also would like to go to a co-op artisans store but not looking for a expensive gallery.

I went to Paddy's yesterday and it was a ton of fun and I got a bunch of australian souveniers but what I really was looking for is something with a mix of Paddy's crazy stuff combined with used or vintage goods like household goods or art.

Any ideas would be fantastic.

THANK YOU!

You've got your dates a bit muddled (friday is the 16th, sat 17th), but not to worry, the Rocks markets are on tonight (friday) …nsw.gov.au/events/15845-the-rocks-village-b…

Tomorrow (sat 17th) the Paddington markets as well as many others are on

Thanks for clearing my head - I was looking at my computer which is still on eastern standard time!

Do you have a favorite of those markets? One you would not miss?

Balmain, or Paddington markets tomorrow (Saturday 17/11) morning. Both in Church yards - Paddington on Oxford street, Balmain in Darling Street. There's also a market in Darling St Rozelle, at the school.

Google " Sydney Saturday Markets" - probably others I've missed.

Danks Street Waterloo has a cluster of galleries.

I haven't been to Glebe or Balmain but would definitely recommend The Rocks Market tonight as they do get stallholders there with some Australiana and hand made goods ... some is expensive.

Paddington Markets is also well worth a look IMO - lots of jewellery stores there and I'm sure I saw vintage things at the Markets ... there's also a lot of shops outside the Market, ie opposite too.

My tip - get there early as it can get busy. I know that they operate in the rain as it was raining on the day I went there.

A bus ride will get you there and back to the city quite quickly.

Also around The Rocks area in Argyle Street more or less opposite the MCA is Ken Done's colourful art and clothes ... some love it, some don't but it is uniquely Aussie. http://www.kendone.com/

Vintage stuff? King Street, Newtown has a few quirky shops that could satisfy that but with limited time ... hmm ... you may be best sticking to The Rocks and Paddington Markets.

To get to Newtown via bus or alight at the railway station - just a couple of stops on from Central but make sure you take notice of the indicator boards as not all trains stop there.

5. Re: shopping today+ tomorrow morning in markets for local art

Just tried to post and it did not go through so sorry if this is a repeat:

I think Paddington Market tomorrow morning sounds like the place to go as I can only choose one and should be finished my inexpensive antique hunting by noon in order to catch my flight in a timely manner.

I can't go to The Rocks tonight due to work, but does anyone know if some of those shops are open today? Is it a touristy enough area where stores may be open on an odd day just because tourists/customers/people wander around that area?

Thanks!

There are certainly shops open during the day in the Rocks area, but probably not the actual market stalls. Still worth a wander around the area in general if you haven't been there before.

Paddington sounds like a good choice for tomorrow :)

There is an Antique Centre in South Dowling Street which is not that far from Oxford Street ... I used to lose a few days there every now and again some years ago...I haven't been there for years !!

I doubt you would get any bargains but if you like looking, I would allow about an hour or so - http://www.sydantcent.com.au/history.html

Click on the maps tab and you'll see where it is in relation to Oxford St/ Taylors Square and Paddington ... perhaps a 15 min walk from Paddington ??

There's also a few "Antique" markets along Parramatta Rd from Glebe to Leichhardt. I often see them on the bus but never have time to stop to look....maybe next time if you have more time !
