Where to eat at New Years Eve ?

Hi :)

Travelling with my husband, we are staying in the Rocks for NYE,and want to eat somewhere special (not meaning expensive). Any tips ? Want to book early :)

Um, now isn;t exactly early.

By not expensive could you please give us a $$ range.

Most places start around the $200ph and those with a view can reach $1000ph

Hmm probably not more than 300 pp, we live in the Rocks so plan to eat early and head out in plenty of time before the fireworks!

Ok so what you want is a meal that is good but doesn't need to have a view to spend the evening.

Lots of places in the Rocks will be geared as the venue.

Neirher of these have views so may operate as food only.

Try Ananas (French)

Museum of Sydney (MOS Restaurant)

Hard to make suggestions as the Rocks is a NYE destination..

I'll keep thinking.

What kind of food would you like to eat?

Maybe around Cockle Bay for an early meal then walk back to the Rocks (which will be crowded). Or in Hickson Road The Rocks (there is Ventuno Pizza, Teras Bali, ).

Do you have a plan to see the fireworks (at 9pm and midnight) as your meal time could limit your viewing choices due to crowds ?

Thank you so much for your replies!

When it comes to what kind of food, we want good, authentic food, a meal to get full and satisfied with. When we travel we tend to eat a lot of seafood, so that would be nice. Also asian, Thai is a favourite but not necessary for NYE.

We want to see the fireworks both times I guess..or...? So much to decide for and we also want to go out with a boat - should we instead eat and stay in the Rocks ?

You wont be able to do a boat and eat at somewhere nice IMHO time might be against you.

Sailors Thai often gets recommended in the rocks. The best Thai is in newtown IMHO

Sake is good japanese.

Okey, what do you recommend for first timers in Sydney? Dinner and the Rocks or boat? Thank you all so much!

If you want somewhere different I recommend Momofuku Seiobo at The Star star.com.au/sydney-restaurants/signature-fin… They have an amazing tasting menu which is $175 pp. You would need to book early as it's not a big restaurant. Also keep in mind the time it takes for the degustation menu if you are wanting to go elsewhere afterwards.

The Bridge Room isn't quite near the The Rocks but just up from Circular Quay and is 2 hatted, they do delicious food

A lot of the other nicer restaurants will be jacking up their $$ on NYE, Rockpool, Dinner at the Park Hyatt etc. have special dinners which might be over $300 pp.
