Flying to Sydney with Quantas

We are thinking about booking a holiday to Sydney for next April and have been looking at flights from London Heathrow. The Quantas flight QF2 has a stopover at Dubai so was wondering if anyone has flown on this flight and how long the stopover is, and can other people board at Dubai or is the flight regarded as London to Sydney passengers only?

The stopover in Dubai is about an hour, some passengers will on,y be travelong to Dubai and others will be boarding for the first time. When you land everyone gets off, goes through a security check before they go inside the main terminal area where all the shops are.

Will I need to have the local currency in Dubai or will the airport except Aus Dollars or British Pounds?

The shops at Dubai airport will accept both AUD and Stirling, but expect to get a poor exchange rate and don't expect to get change in that currency.

You would be better off using a credit card for any purchases you may make.

It's a short stop so you wont have a lot of time for shopping.

Hi,

a flight from LHR to Dubai takes 6 hrs 50 mins, whilst a flight from Dubai to SYD takes 13hrs 55mins, total- 20 hrs 45mins

It is shown the QF2 takes 22hrs 40min- so stop over is around 1hr 55mins.

It(QF2) will departs from Dubai at 0920hrs (local time).

If you prefer a shorter stopover, can do the later LHR to Dubai at 2215hrs, and since code share with Emirates, your luggage is still tagged to SYD, On the 2215hrs from LHR,you arrive into Dubai at 0805hrs(local time),and just transit 1hr15mins to board QF2

Better to use your credit card if you intend to make duty free purchases.

AED/AUD = 3.38982

AED/GBP = 5.61442

unless you wish to have few fulus on you..which am still having...though unavoidable, to get some snack and bottled water.

If you wish to get some price listings of Dubai duty free products:-

excerpted from the Dubai Voyager magazine:-

Have a pleasant flight on the big bird.

Hi thanks for all your replies. We are going to book QF2 and will buy some AED to use for buying snacks and drinks at airport.

As mentioned stopover the stopover is 2hrs. Tip: You do have a long flight to Sydney so try & keep awake in the first leg of your journey.
