Train from Katoomba to Central. Walk from Central through the park and turn left down towards Paddies Market (or take the tram) walk past the Entertainment Centre and you are at the southern end of Darling Harbour - walking time under 10 minutes

Yep you're staying in a perfect place for catching a train to Katoomba. It's a no-brainer, don't even think of catching a taxi and wasting money ... the train is even more efficient than a private vehicle too! In fact, lots of people who live in the Blue Mountains commute to Sydney for work every day, so there should be a good variety in the train schedule.

A taxi would cost about $400. The train is about $8. Also more relaxing and safer on a train. You get a good view for most of the trip, of theBlue Mountains, the suburbs, the city and people's back gardens.

MKiara ... super suggestion - we took the ferry a couple of weeks ago - glorious. OP do check the tides before considering this - sometimes the ferry doesn't go all the way to Parramatta. Meadowbank is another option for a guaranteed ferry though you'd have to change trains at Strathfield for this.

Nice idea, but the train station in Parramatta is a long way from the ferry wharf. You would need to be prepared for a longish walk or take a bus. We've been meaning to do this route for a long time but so far have been unlucky with the tides. Our return journey always seems to coincide with low tide.

Try going from/to Meadowbank Mia - the tides have less impact from there. The river/harbour on a sunny Sunday was just stunning - don't know why it took us so long to take this trip.
