Wine tasting day trip from sydney? Alternatives?

Have an out of towner coming to visit sydney and she desperately wants to go wine tasting. (For the day). Trying to find an area (or tour) for the day only that is close enough to Sydney but still decent wine/ nice environment etc? Obviously there's the hunter but its a bit if a mission to get to plus so large she might prefer something more quaint. Southern highlands (berrima, kiama, etc). Anything within an hour that might make it a bit easier to drive to? Or is it worth it to spend the extra time (and possibly just go on a tour) to get to southern highlands or hunter? i think ive seen one or two mentioned in the hills area (windsor etc) but not sure if theyre the places you take someone on a first sydney trip? Would love your suggestions thank you!

Drive to HV (Cessnock) is about 2 hours and drive to Berry (with 15 wineries in the area) is 2 hours. The drive south is nice and can include Kiama and Gerrigong/Geroa.

If you are coming on a weekend, Windy Ridge in the Megalong Valley is open and a very delightful setting, not to mention the great taste of their boutique wines.

Here's a tour suggestion: boutiquewinetours.com.au/hunter-valley-wine-…

Don't know what they're like; I live local to the Hunter Valley so don't need to go on a tour, but if you all want to do tastings and don't want to drive, it may be a good alternative. I do know of a couple of companies that offer wine tours from Newcastle and they are good value, but you still have to get to Newcastle.

There are a few wineries in the Hawkesbury area, but check opening/tasting times …sydney.com/Wine_regions_near_Sydney_Hawkesb…

There is also the Southern Highlands …sydney.com/Wine_regions_near_Sydney_Souther…

Another option would be the Canberra wineries combined with a visit to Canberra itself but that would be best done as an overnight visit. http://www.canberrawines.com.au/

Awesome thanks for the tips guys! Will definitely check out the ones closer to Sydney. Just did some fruit picking the other weekend with bub and noticed some winery regions in the hawksbury area. Will do a little research cheers

Have you considered the wineries in the Camden area, less than an hours drive from Sydney.

There aren't too many but combine it with a nice lunch and a country atmosphere it'll make a nice day out
