sydney airport shuttle or train

Quick question...we are heading from Sydney airport to Swissotel downtown...Taxi I hear are very expensive , so can everyone give us the name of reliable airport shuttle company or is it possible to take the train. We are traveling from Canada with two large suit cases, so we are not sure about train.

Any suggestions?

Plus trying to find where are Princess cruise will leave from which wharf?

Don't take the shuttle, there's a good chance you'll start your holidays on a bad note. Nobody recommends shuttles.

Train is a good option if you don't mind travelling with the suitcases - to the Swissotel, either St James Station or Town Hall.

But with two of you travelling, door to door, and don't want the hassle with luggage, definitely taxi. At most it's $15-20 more than two train tickets.

For the cruise departure, there are 2 wharves - the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) at Circular Quay and the new one at White Bay (entry from Rozelle).

Your cruise booking should tell you the departure wharf (without dates and ship name we can only guess).

If it is not rush hour the train is fine. There are no stairs to climb at the airport.

T1 to Swissotel by cab will be somewhere in the vicinity of $50.

The train will cost you about $34 for the two of you. Get off at St James (three stops closer than Town Hall). It's 2 blocks down Market St to the Swissotel.

A shuttle may or may not pick you up, you will have to wait around till they fill up, it will probably cost at least as much as the train and will almost definitely take longer to get you to the hotel by the time they drop off other people enroute.

I agree with Eva. Take the train to St James. There are lifts from the platforms to the concourse. Take the exit to Market Steet. There is another lift up the short distance to the street. Swisshotel is 3 blocks along Market St on the right hand side.

At the time of your visit the train frequency from the airport will be 8 trains an hour, so there should be little waiting at the station.
