best travel option for seeing Sydney plus the Blue Mountains

I am bringing a group of college students to Sydney in late January. We would like to see the sights of Sydney including Manly, Bondi Beach, the Rocks, the Harbor Bridge, etc but would also like to take a day trip to the Blue Mountains. We will probably purchase Multipasses but I wasn't sure which zone to get. Do these passes help you get to the Blue Mountains or do you need to buy a completely separate ticket for that?

Thanks so much for any help!

You will need a MyMulti-3 if you want to catch the train to the Blue Mountains, or to get the Manly Ferry.

Also remember that even though they may be students, international students can not get transport discounts(only those with affliated cards from local schools, colleges and unis etc)unless they are under 16yo as then they are still classed and children.

Once here attempt to get to one of 4 Transit Shops(located at Circular Quay...at maccas, behind the QVB and Wynyard and also on the Broadway side of Central Station)to get a better idea of tickets.

If you have a student group just be aware that catching the train to the Blue Mountains then requires another bus to see the sights such as Three Sisters etc. As a group, if large, you might want to consider a day trip by tour bus to make logistics easier - there are plenty of tour companies offering day trips. If staying in Sydney CBD suggest you catch the Manly Ferry to Manly as it is a wonderful trip.

Another vote for a day trip to the Blue Mountains with a tour company. It will be cost effective and so much easier than public transport, unless you are on a super-tight budget.

What I would do, is to contact a few of the more popular tour companies, and see if you can negotiate a group reservation. I would be most surprised if they don't discount for a group booking.

Have you looked at the reports for the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus in Katoomba? Travelling by train from Sydney is easy and economical (depending on the students ages you may attract the child fare) and you can move around inside the train more readily than on a coach. The HO HO Explorer Bus system gives you plenty of easy to follow walks and you can also include the rides at Scenicworld. Lots of details and favourable reports in Trip Advisor
