Trafalgar Tour Contrasts of Australia and new Zealand

Hi

Considering the 19 day Contrasts of New Zealand and Australia tour offered by Trafalgar.

Wondering if anyone has taken this tour and what they thought about the pace, the sights

accommodations and overall quality of the experience.

Also will be staying in Sydney for 3 days at the outset and I am trying to locate a hotel either

in the Rocks area or something with ready access (within 2-3 blocks to transportation, preferably

including breakfast and if not at least a refrigerator and kettle. Wanting to pay around $150-175

a night. Would welcome any suggestions, with safety and access to transportation being primary considerations and not luxury.

Also does anyone have information on a good day tour to the Blue Mountains.

Also is it possible to take a tour of the Ocean Road from Sydney and if so, would love information, please.

Await prompt reply as I must finalize plans and pay soon, since this is an April 2 trip.

Would appreciate feedback anyone can offer ASAP.

Many, many thanks,

I'm not sure how much feedback you'll get in regards to Trafalgar Tours, the great majority of those who come to the forums are DIY travellers.

In regards to accommodation in Sydney, your dates will have a fair impact on the advertised rates. Your budget may be a little tight for the mainstream chain hotels (depending on dates), but should be ample for some of the more independent pub stay hotels such as The Lord Nelson, and The Mercantile.

But less us know your dates and we'll do our best to make some suggestions.

The Great Ocean Road (GOR) is 1,000km (600 miles) for Sydney and starts from Melbourne.

look at www.wotif.com.au under location Sydney CBD for hotels - maybe the Wynyard Travelodge or the Menzies Hotel

The Grear Ocean Road is in Victoria.

Unless you take a comprehensive road tour that includes it from Sydney, you would need to fly to Melbourne & take a car or tour from there.

It's about 900kms Sydney to Melbourne. Driving time about 10 hours, flying about 75 mins.

For Sydney accommodation, you might also have a look at Sydney Harbour YHA, which has ensuite rooms, is in a great location, fits your budget and has fantastic views from the roof terrace. Sydney Harbour B&B may also be worth checking.

As KVE says, your budget is rather low for the prime accommodation & tourist area in Sydney, and will be influenced by when you will be here.

SuzatteMiami, by "Ocean Road from Sydney", do you mean the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, or the Grand Pacific Drive, which runs along the coast of New South Wales to the south of Sydney?

Suzette ... while you await our prompt replies ... re day tours/trips to the Blue Mountains ... have you read the Top Question on this topic - there are three items linked there

Or used the search box - just a couple of days ago another member asked a smimilar question and was given links to two good tours

Members here are happy to help but do not take too kindly to being treated like travel agents - some effort on your part will reap so much more useful info than simply expecting others to do your work for you

Suzette

most hotels in Australia have tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge (bar fridge). Unless staying at an upmarket hotel, you're most likely to find instant coffee rather than filtered or plunger coffee.

You could also look at a room with private facilities at the YHA at The Rocks.

There are several supermarkets within the Sydney city business district (CBD) so if you had a room an apartment with a kitchette you'd have no problem self-catering - many of the apartments are located in the "Downtown" area of the CBD as opposed to The Rocks / Circular Quay.

There's plenty of transport options at Circular Quay and throughout the CBD area andr IMO, The Rocks / Circular Quay area is a great place for tourists to see because many sights (and sites) are easy walking an also at Circular Quay there's lots of transport options - train, bus, taxi, free bus (555 does a city loop but no commentary), HOHO and of course Sydney's famous ferries.

As mentioned, it's mostly DIY travellers here. But if you'd like some opinions about a tour it would help if you post a link otherwise we have to go searching for it to know what you are talking about.

Thanks KVE. I am aware the site is more for independent travelers but hoping since it has wide readership

maybe someone could give me feedback on this tour. We usually don't travel in tours, but this seems most practical at present. Will need to lock in the tour piece and will then start researching hotels. Thanks for input and prompt reply.

Thanks for feedback. I have read about the Ocean Road, but had not consulted map.

Oh well, guess I can't do it this time.

Thanks for feedback!

I did a google search for reviews and found nothing but links to the actual tour site ... you may get better review results from over there.
