32 hour lay over in Sydney - ideas please

Hi, we arrive in Sydney domestic at 1pm then fly out the following night at 10pm Sydney international. Family of 4, kids are 5 & 7. Ideas on places to stay as we're thinking of booking for 2 nights as then we could shower and get ready for our late flight and checkout early.

We have been to Sydney before so won't be doing all the touristy stuff, but hoping to run the kids ragged before our flight to Dubai.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be good.

If you're looking at something reasonably central-ish, with enough to keep your kids occupied for a day and a bit, with plenty of eats nearby, I'd say Darling Harbour/Darling Quarter.

You have that entire area, plus Tumbalong Park, Chinatown, Harbourside and Cockle Bay to keep them entertained.

Numerous hotel options on both the eastern and western side of Darling Harbour, as well as Town Hall. It comes down to dates and budget.

Time of the year? If it's still warm, a day at the beach always wears them out. You could do the Bondi to Bronte walk and stop at each beach for a play and a swim.

A walk around from the Opera House, past Mrs Macquaries chair and along the path to the Boy Charlton pool. More swimming. Nice cafe there too. Very near the Art Gallery if you want to throw in a bit of culture.

Head across to Manly and rent bikes for the day. There's a bike rental place just opposite the ferry wharf. Spend a day, or just a few hours, riding and swimming around the Northern Beaches. There are some fantastic rock pools the kids can swim in quite safely.

Also at Manly you can hire kayaks and go paddling on the harbor.

A day at the zoo. Lots of walking. Lots of animals. Mine always came home exhausted.

The Powerhouse museum has lots of interactive displays to keep kids entertained and amused. Probably good for a half a day.

Just thinking about all these activities puts me in the mood to have a lie down.

If in summer consider staying at Manly. Perfect for kids with the beach nearby, heaps of food options and the city is only a ferry journey away.

Luna Park might be another option depending on your dates - it doesn't open every day though.

Coogee would be another good area to stay. There is a big park near the beach with climbing frames if they like that sort of thing.
