Must see in Blue Mountains

My 23-year old daughter and I will be in Sydney for a week in April, and have planned a one night stay in Katoomba. We are planning to take the train early one morning, spend the night, and return to Sydney by train the next day, as late as necessary to see as much as possible. We are quite fit and like to hike. We aren't really interested in just going to lookouts with masses of tourists. What are the must-see places and hikes we should aim for?

Have you checked out the 'things to do' link in the green bar at the top of the page and in the same spot on the Katoomba forum page? Lots of things listed there .. and without any idea of your particular interests it is impossible to make suggestions. If you make a list of the things that interest you and post it, there will be lots of people who can help you with the logisitics

This is a very well respected site used by most bush walkers for tracks notes and maps. wildwalks.com/bushwalking/…bushwalking.html

There are hundreds of km of tracks throughout the Mountains. Unless you have a reasonable level of fitness stick to Grade 1,2 or 3 walks. The timings are accurate. Some of or favorite walks are Wentworth Falls, through Leura Forest, The Under cliff Walk and the National Pass.

There's nowhere on most walks to get food or water so make a sure you carry enough and take the usual precautions regarding footwear, sunscreen etc. Enjoy your hiking. It's an amazing place, especially when you get away from other people and have the bush to yourself.

And note that April is the beginning of our autumn so weather can still change quite quickly (ie warm to cold/wet) so be prepared.
