Katoomba

Planned to take the train out to Katoomba with young family this June. Realise that this is just a small part of the blue Mountains but due to lack of time have chosen this option. Would need advice on an itinerary of the area to get the most out of one day in and around Katoomba ...

Thanks in advance/George

There's a HOHO bus that leaves from Katoomba station and goes round all the popular spots.

Most famous would probably be Scenic World, Echo Point, Katoomba Falls and Leura Cascades. You can also do some nice walks from each of these.

There's also the Trolley bus that is much the same as the Explorer and has much the same stops.

Katoomba is very walkable. How young is "young"? There are several really lovely trails, but some of them descend to the valley floor, which is extremely challenging, but also very rewarding. The main features of interest are all along the edge of the bluffs and quite close together.

If you get the hop on hop off bus, then stop 14 (Honeymoon lookout) is good to get off at - and then take the walk down and up to the 'three sisters' lookout area (stop 15) - there are toilets there too. It takes about 30 mins to walk, so easy for the kids, but if you want to make it more fun/longer you can also take the stairs to the 'three sisters' along the way.
