4 Day School Trip/Camp

Hi Guys,

A group of 12 of us (3 teachers & 9 year 8 boys) intend to make a 4 day road trip from Melbourne to Sydney (fri-mon). We will make our way with one of the school buses so have the convenience & flexibility of stopping where we want when we want. We will leave early Friday arriving in to Sydney around 5pm and leave on Monday at midday arriving into Melbourne in the evening which will give us 2.5 days/3 nights in Sydney.

We regularly venture to beachside camp locations & stay in tents where the main activity is going to the beach, hiking, camp fires etc. As we will mainly be in the big smoke we need all the help & assistance of the resident Sydneysiders in deciding what to do & where to visit.

We will be in Sydney with a bunch of energetic & overly enthusiastic young boys so need some advise on activities to do in & around Sydney. We will most likely be based in or around Guildford in a school & can use public transport to get in to town or drive our minibus.

I believe it would make more sense for us to spend the whole time in Sydney rather than venturing on any side trips but not too sure on which way to go. Any ideas on places we could stop by on our way in to Sydney?

Can you guys please advise some places to visit & activities for time 3 days we will be in Sydney for. It will be most of the kids first time to Sydney so looking forward to the usual touristy recommendations as well as any others.

Thanks in advance as any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't be stopping at Liverpool. There's nothing here. It seems a bit close to your final stop anyway.

Goulburn was going to be my suggestion too. Once you reach Campbelltown you'll want to keep going as the traffic will start getting heavier.

You can watch an NRL game at ANZ Stadium at Olympic Park.

At 7.45pm on Friday night 21st June the Bulldogs play the Roosters and at 3pm on Sunday 23rd June the Eels play the Rabbitohs.

Olympic Park is an easy train trip from Guildford. Just change at Lidcombe for an Olympic Park train.

The forecast appears wet for Friday but less chance of showers for the weekend. The kids are year 9 students. Need your finishing touches to polish up the itinerary if possible.

Friday

5pm arrive airport then make way into city with train to meet friend then hang around there for a while

7pm make way to Auburn for some kebabs

9-10pm meet the rest of the group in Guildford (coming with bus), go to our sleeping quarters and call it a night

Saturday

8am train from Guildford to CC

9am ferry to Q station, tour Quarantine station for a few hours or can go to Manly instead. The net recommends doing kayaks in Manly even if it rains, what do you say? Or maybe even a bike ride.

12:45pm make way back to CC

1:45pm walk to the Rocks, have pancakes or something else

Take train to Milsons point station and then walk back on the harbour also going up the Pylon lookout on the way back (have done the pylon a few times in the past and was good, should we do this or skip it?) Just trying to think of activities that will engage the kids and get them talking & excited (not that they don’t talk enough already)

4pm Powerhouse or National museum (which would the kids enjoy more?)

Walk around botanic gardens to the art gallery and from there to Hyde Park then to Martin Place.

6:30pm eat somewhere

8:30pm free Harbourside fireworks

Sunday

8:30am drive to Featherdale zoo

11am, drive to Guildford return bus then make way for lunch

12:30pm, train to CC

1:30pm National museum walk around Darling Harbour

3pm rivercat to Parramatta, visit Olympic park & Acquatic centre

7pm make way to eat

Monday

9am after breakfast main group will depart for Melbourne

11am train from Guildford to airport for 1:20pm departure

Saturday - note Manly and QS are not at the same ferry wharf. I would consider Manly ferry then walk along the beach. Maybe a visit to Manly Sea Life Sanctuary

Maybe lunch in Manly (fish and chips and probably easier than the Rocks)

1.45pm - just as easy to walk thru the Rocks and then over the Bridge. Luna Park is on the Milsons Point side

4.00pm - Powerhouse closes at 5pm so not much time to look around

Sunday - why not keep the bus all day ? How do you get from Parramatta to Acquatic Centre ? The ferry to Parramatta needs to allow for tides so may not go all the way.

Your hour to Cq. May be optimistic. There's track work this weekend :(

Plugging your journey into trip planner it says 1 hour 30 to circular quay and it will involve changes of trains and busesand that's providing every runs to schedule

Thanks dytokyo, so looks like we will need to make an earlier start to Saturday to get the most out of the day.

Noted that the QC and Manly are seperate stops and a 30 minute walk between the two.

We may do Botanic Gardens walk on Sunday instead to free up Saturday.

GurusW, thanks for the heads up and may continue on with our bus from Featherdale to CQ instead of taking train from Guildford to shorten the journey.
