First Time to Sydney! Itinerary query

Hi,

We are three adults travelling to Sydney on 19Oct for a period of 8days.

We have booked our hotel and our ticket, and we will be staying in Surry Hills areas.

We have roughly planned out an itinerary and would like any help to take a look and advise any suggestions.

Day 1 -

Arrive Sydney around 10.30a.m. -> Check-in to Hotel -> The Rocks Weekend Market -> Observatory Hill -> Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk/Pylon Lookout

Day 2 -

Scenic City Walk around the area (The Rocks area/Opera House/Botanical Garden/Art Gallery of NSW/Hyde Park etc)

Day 3 & 4 - Blue Mountains

(Scenic World/ Three Sisters / Echo Point) and (Leura Village and National Pass Trek - Wentworth Falls)

Day 5 -

Bondi to Coogee Beach Coastal Walk / Chinatown

Day 6 -

Tarango Zoo/ Westfield Shopping Mall/Sydney Tower - Observation Deck

Day 7 -

Sydney Fish Market/ Paddington Market/Darling Harbour (Fireworks at Harbourside!!!)

Day 8 -

No planned yet, our flight back is in the afternoon.

We planned to go to Blue Mountains for 2 days because we understand it is not possible to cover the National Pass trekking and Three Sister on the same day. However, we will be staying at Sydney and just take the train out on both day

We will be getting MyMulti3 Pass and intend to get Optus $2 sim card at the airport when we arrive.

We have read that it is always a long queue at the Yes! Optus counter at the Airport, is it true?

We would like to try Jetboating, any recommendation on the time and day to do it?

Any advise/suggestion is appreciated. Thank!!

Hi. Your plan looks good. What time does your plane arrive? That will have a big bearing on whether there are queues at Optus!

Great Itinerary, I would definitely include a ferry boat ride to Manly on the regular Manly Ferry from Circular Quay. It is a very scenic trip on Sydney Harbour which should be covered by your MyMulti3 pass. Also maybe a ferry trip to Watson's Bay.

it's a pity that you could not stay the night at the Blue Mountains and save yourselves the 2 hour rides back to Sydney and then back up again.

the YHA in Katoomba would probably have been one place to stay.

The National Pass hike is a half day walk. If you are reasonably fit and don't stop for too long along the track you should be able to complete the walk in 4 hours and still have time to catch the train to Katoomba to see the Three Sisters. Even if you get there late in the afternoon it's still quite spectacular as the Sisters are floodlit at night.

You can then get a train back to Sydney - perhaps have dinner in Katoomba before leaving. A long day, certainly, but better than spending an extra day and 4 hours on the train.

I have done the pass walk as a full day trip and that included stopping for a very long leisurely lunch at Conservation hut. Even then it only took us 5 hours.

Our flight is scheduled to arrive at 10.30 am, will there be a long queue over there?

Will try to slot in the ferry ride to manly to take in the scenic view!

For blue mountains, if we were to squeeze it into one day trip, any suggestions on the activities for the free day?

Thanks for all the responds!

Hi,

We would like to enquire on Taronga Zoo. If we have the MyMulti3 pass, do we have to buy another ticket to take the ferry from circular quay/darling harbour to the zoo?

We checked and understand the AUD$46 is inclusive of the entrance tix to the zoo and the sky safari cable car, so once we reach the ferry harbour at Taronga, we can just take the cable car to the zoo entrance?

Do we have to buy the zoo ticket before hand or we can get it at the harbour?

the mymulti3 pass covers your ferry from CQ to Taronga Zoo

sydneytrains.info/tickets/pdf/mymulti_fare_m…

once we reach the ferry harbour at Taronga, we can just take the cable car to the zoo entrance

from the website...... Use of the Sky Safari is included in the ticket admission price.

do not think you can buy tickets at the harbour. buy at the entrance to the zoo.

Hi,

What a shame!

Eight days in Sydney and you only leave the "Big Smoke" to visit the Blue Mountains. If you can stand to peel yourselves away from suburbia a day trip to the Hunter Valley or maybe even the Southern Highlands may allow you to a glimpse of Australia.

BTW Jet Boating on Sydney Harbour, compared to the Shotover Jet and its' ilk in New Zealand, is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Cheers,

Day 7: places on your itinerary are a bit spaced out and not directly connected - I think you may end up spending a bit of time in traffic

I would suggest that you visit Chinatown at the same time as fish markets and Darling Harbour as they are close to each other - all in walkable distance

And on the day when you do the Bondi to Coogee walk, you can add Watson Bay as well as it is all eastern suburbs. If you are fit, do the walk Coogee to Bondi, then catch a taxi to Watson's Bay (its 20 mins out), from Watson's Bay you can catch a ferry back to the city

When you arrive at the Taronga Wharf, you will only be allowed on the sky safari if you have a prepurchased ticket.Your options are:

Buy your ticket online from the Taronga website

Walk about 100m from the wharf to the lower entrance to buy your ticket then return to the sky safari.

The cable car entrances are outside the zoo so you need to ride it at the start or end of your visit.
