kings canyon to Alice Springs

We have a 4wd Hire car from Ares rock to Alice, staying one night at Kings canyon. We then have a day to do the drive to Alice taking in the loop road. Is this going to be feasable ? Just starting to worry a bit about distance. We are anticiapating a four hour drive but wonder if the loop road will add too much on. Not sure if we can change accom in Alice anyway but any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

This is a great trip, its a fairly long drive but full of lots of suprises such as herds of feral camels etc. We did this trip in January 2003 and the temperature was touching 45 degrees, we passed just three cars all day. The loop road is fine but don't take it to fast especially if it has been raining, you can get some very deep ruts that catch a lot of drivers out. The MacDonnell ranges make a great back drop, enjoy this drive.

Hi

Thanks. We are going at the begining of July so should not be too hot. All hotels are booked but just started to worry that we were doing too much in one day. We really want to havea 2 s in Alice so did not really want to change our plans. We have booked inti the Aurora in Alice and now there has been a really bad report on it ! Oh well just have to hope it will be ok!

July should be great and very much busier than January. If my memory serves me right, there is not much accomodation on the loop road, just a road house which is good for refueling and refreshment. Treat the drive as a bit of an adventure. I would definately have two nights in Alice, there's a lot to see.

Have a great trip

Hi

thanks . We are having 3 nights in Ayres rock at Emu Apartments, one nights Kings Canyon , then 2 nights in Alice before we fly to Darwin, then off to Kakadu for 2 nights, one night in Katherine, then 4 nights in Darwin before we fly home. Have a week in Port DOuglas at the begining! Not long to go now, leave on 29th June!

Thanks again

you can take a sealed road to alice springs from kings canyon. the bus does this every day.

so i would just see how it goes when you get to kings canyon and that way you will be ok. if up to the challenge take the loop road, if not go back to the main highway and take the faster route. it is only around three hours that way.
