Tours from Darwin

Hi --We'll be spending 5-6 days in the Darwin area in July 2012.

Any recommendations for must sees ? Which tours are best ?

I can't recommend any tours as we have driven ourselves on the two trips we have made to Darwin and the Top End.

Here's my list of "must do's" in the area (in no particular order)

Mindel Beach Sunset Market - Darwin

Aquascene - Darwin

Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory - Darwin

Litchfield National Park (perhaps the biggest "must do")

Territory Wildlife Park and Berry Springs -outside of Darwin

Edith Falls National Park -swimming and hiking

Katherine Gorge National Park - canoeing and hiking

Crocodile Night Adventure - Katherine

I have been to Kakadu National Park, and it's probably on everyone else's "must do" list for the Top End, but it did not meet my expectations.

I would also add the Frontline WWII half day tour, which gives you a good look at Darwin city, plus a boat ride out in the harbour and a tour of the brand new just opened Military Museum, with fantastic new exhibits and short documentray complete with sirens, and gun fire and bombs.

The bombing of Darwin, with more than 2x the number of bombs dropped on it in the first two raids than were dropped on Pearl Harbor is well explained in a very interesting way at this museum.

One more thing you might like to add is a sunset tour on a catamaran or similar.

the sunsets in Darwin are wonderful, and over the harbour is an extra special attraction.
