It is very hard to recommend what I would think someone else would like to do in Darwin, on a one day stopover. I've attached a link for you to peruse...I hope you find something that you know you will enjoy.

Darwin is a great town and we loved living there ~

What day of the week will you be here - this will impact the market question.

It depends what you like. Crocosaurus Cove is a good place to see crocodiles and barramundi right in the centre of town.

The museum has a good cyclone Tracy exhibit but is a short taxi ride away.

The cruise ships usually offer a shuttle service into town, but it is close enough to walk (approx 15 mins). If you go through the Waterfront development there is even a lift and a bridge so you don't have to climb up the hill.

If you arrive on Saturday or Sunday there are local markets at Parap (Sat) and Nightcliff (Sunday). They are out of town but wouldn't be to expensive in a taxi. Parap has wonderful food and some great crafts. We always get a Lassi to drink, some Laksa to take home and some nibbles as we walk around.

As said above the Museam is great, and has the 'Ski Club' next door. A very Darwin place to have a beer on the grass looking out across the stunning beach.

The fish feeding is an interesting experience - we did it first thing in the morning (depends on the tides) and really enjoyed it. The Waterfront area has good cafes and restaurants and a wave pool - no sharks!

The main street is Mitchell St and as mentioned above connects from the waterfront to town via a lift and walkover bridge. There is a great Yum Cha place in the middle of the mall if you are there on Sunday. Char is a lovely restaurant on the Esplanade, and The Deck Bar is a favourite of locals.

Crocasaurus Cove is certainly an eye opener and just up Mitchell St.

Crocasaurus Cove is a great option, as is the Museaum and there is also the Defence of Darwin Experience.

I personally love the Ski Club but between 7am and 3pm it would be very hot and although there is some shade around at lunch it is not iMO the premium time to be there.

I would see what the cruise ship has organised but would also suggest getting the Tour Tub, which is a hop-on hop-off option.
