In Katherine we stayed at Shady Lane on the way out to Nitmiluk gorge.

Its lovely and quiet, big spaces, nice pool, heaps of green tropical trees.

We did stay in one of their new cabins which are also pretty comfortable.

In Kakadu I would suggest Cooinda. It has lots of facilities, including a great pool.

Or if you don't need a powered site use one of the National Parks campsites and be right amongst the bush (still with toilets and showers).

Hi. We stayed at Lee Point in Darwin. The place was overgrowen and not kept up at all. Staff not very pleasant. So moved onto FreeSpirit which is only 15 min from city. Palmerston is just down the road. Bus at doorstep. Staff are so freindly. 3 pools lovely restaurant. An the park its self is well kept an immaculate. You will have to book early as the dry season is nearly upon us an spaces fill up quick. Hope this was helpful.

A great site with a lot of reviews of caravan parks can be found here: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~badger04/parks_d0.htm

The national parks sometimes have shower blocks as well but not especially cheap (eg, an unpowered site for 2 at Katherine Gorge NP was going to set us back $36 a night). We had trouble trying to find an unpowered site over Easter in Katherine, they nearly all wanted power only or the unpowered were on grass we couldn't drive our van onto.

We have always liked Springvale Homestead though in Katherine for cheap camping and a nice area to walk around with a bit of history (and croc spotting at night).

Stayed at the Adelaide River Inn Caravan Park on our way to Darwin. Small park, grassed, shady sites, great pool for a refreshing dip, reasonably priced and only approx a hour from Darwin. Not a bad fed of Barra , chips and salad at the inn either.

Have you had a look at Aurora Shady Glen in Berrimah? New owners last two years and they seem to hav e done lots of improvements. Always seems to have lots of people staying there as I see them around on my way to work.

In Litchfield I would definitely try the Florence Falls 2wd or 4wd parks especially if coming through mid week.
