5 day April itinerary/accom for 8 people 5 to 80 years old

Hi, we are an extended Victorian family of 4 kids, 5 - 15 years, plus 2 active grandparents and have just booked flight to Darwin for April. We will have a self drive hire van and 5 days to experience Darwin, nature and indigenous culture. We are yet to book a accom (would welcome a suggestion of a resort style with great pool facilities) and plan our trip. Can anyone suggest an itinerary that will take in Lichfield, Darwin and some crocodile experience that is within a tourist park, not in nature, thank you I in advance of your suggestions. Nervous mother.

Hi

The only hotel in Darwin I would describe as resort style is the new section of the SkyCity Casino. Although you didn't mention a budget and it is at the higher end.

Another option may be the Medina or Vibe at the Darwin Waterfront, not resort style but near a swimming lagoon with a beach (man made and crocodile free) and a wave pool the kids would love.

The Palms Resort may also suit your needs, but check the reviews as I have never stayed there.

Crocosaurus Cove would give you a crocodile experience http://www.crocosauruscove.com/

But why not in the wild? There are a couple of companies that run jumping crocodile cruises on the Adelaide River, or other wetland cruises where you can see wild crocodiles in safety.

The Territory Wildlife Park is also worth a look to see the wildlife of the Top End. Berry Springs right next door is good for a swim, but might not have opened up by April.

Litchfield is easily done as a day trip from Darwin - good roads, just follow the signs and don't forget you bathers.

Are you planning to go to Kakadu? This would be the best place to experience indigenous culture, but you would need to allow a minimum of three days of your time to do this - so your itinerary really hinges on this decision.

Hope this helps.

I suggest the Mirambeena (sp?). I haven't stayed there for a while but used to stay regularly. The pool area is great, especially for kids. Suggest you check recent reviews for more up to date info.

The Mirrambeena is a good suggestion - if you are looking for it on the internet it is now called the Travelodge Mirrambeena or sometimes Travelodge Darwin.
