Killing time ...... at Darwin Airport!!

Hi - so, Qantas have changed our flights (again) and we now have a 9 hour wait at Darwin Airport!! We arrive 2pm and leave around 11pm on our way to Bali... Looking for some suggestions of things to do, we are a family of 4 (2 teenagers) It will be a long day having left Hobart many hours earlier!! Is it worthwhile heading into the city? What is there to look at in that amount of time and that time of day?? thanks for any ideas or suggestions, regards Michelle

It's only a 15-2min drive from the airport to the city depending on the time of day and there is nothing to do at Darwin airport so yes, it is worth going into town.

Some of the things you could check out are. ( note you wouldn't fit all of these in - just ideas):

- Waterfront precinct (wave pool, swimming lagoon, restaurants, nice grass for a wee nap)

- Crocosaurus Cove

- Aquascene fish feeding (tide dependent)

- Museum

- Defence of Darwin Exhibition

- sunset harbour cruise

- hop on hop off bus

- half day city tour

- if it happens to be a Thursday Mindil Beach sunset markets

Or if you are not too tired from travelling you could hire a car and visit:

- Berry Springs and/ or Territory Wildlife Park

- Jumping Crocodile Cruise on Adelaide River

Enjoy

Reastically you only have hours with getting bags, checkin and customs etc.

Still I would go with any of Shaz's suggestions, but maybe not hiring car one. Staying around town will be easy and plenty to keep you occupied.

There are luggage lockers out the front of the airport.

If you have say 6 or so hours, I would stay in town - waterfront, wave pool, oil storage tunnels, walk to the wharf, walk around town, maybe museum,

Airport only 15 mins away from town area.

hi sunnygirlTownsville, i have found out that the shuttle bus to the city costs about $69 return for a family or taxi's are around $25 to the city (one way). The lockers are located within the Pick Up Shelter in the Short Term Car park. We are also packing our togs and heading to the wave pool for a few hours, there are restaurants there as well. Enjoy your holiday!
