Road trip from Newcastle to Airlie Beach?

We are doing a road trip in sept this year. We have 6 weeks. The middle 2 weeks we are in Airlie, one week on yacht. What would be your definite tourist attractions/sites and must see's between surfers paradise and Airlie beach. We have 2 weeks to get to Airlie and will be traveling with our caravan and 3 sons, 7,4 & 3 years old.

Wallyo2 we leave this Thursday for our road trip to Airlie Beach, we are only overnighting in Rockhampton....

Can highly recommend 1770/Agnes Water for a stop over. There's a nice caravan park in 1770 on the water, you could take a reef trip out to Lady Musgrave Island, the area is just stunningly beautiful.

We also love the Caloundra area, especially the kids, that's not far from Surfers though but is worth a night or two.

Good luck, Rene

Hi Wally,

Adding to ellietia's comments above.

Caloundra would be a great stop for a few days, there's a caravan park on the right as you are coming in to Caloundra on the corner of Esplanade (heads to Golden Beach, and has a few names) and Bowman Road -

http://www.caloundraholidaypark.com.au/

The park above is in a very good location, short walk to beaches, shops and the main shopping strip of town. And there's a great boardwalk going from Bulcock Beach to Kings Beach, Bulcock Beach is close to the park.

There are few other caravan parksd scattered around the Caloundra.

Short drives from Caloundra are -

Sunshine Coast Hinterland - http://www.hinterlandtourism.com.au/

Australia Zoo, Buderim Ginger Factory, now Yandina

The Eumuni Markets Wednesday and Saturday -

http://www.eumundimarkets.com.au/

Mooloolaba's Underwater World.

And of course the rest of the Sunshine Coast .

A bit further north is Hervey Bay, great spot for small children, and a great jumping off spot for Fraser Island.

http://www.fraserisland.com.au/

A bit further north you have Bundaberg, nice town and a short drive to Bagara Beach. If you like rum well you can tour the Bundy Rum factory -

http://www.bundabergrum.com.au/

As already mentioned again further north you have1770/Agnes Waters.

IMO, not a lot to do until you reach Mackay now, Mackay's nice town, and inland you have Eungella Park, great park.

I hope some of the suggestions helped.

And hopefully someone else can add.

Safe travels - Robert

, Byron Bay, Sunshine coast (Noosa Moololaba), Fraser Island, 1770, Airlie.

I have lived in QLD for 23 years and done that drive multiple times as My parents live in Newcastle and Mackay. Once you leave south east corner its a big drive into nothing until you hit arlie and apart from agnes waters I wouldnt bother stopping anywhere
