Other than getting a few hours sleep at the Novotel airport hotel, you could always head into Brisbane by taxi. The shops are open till 9pm on Friday nights, perhaps get some dinner in the city. Catch a rivercat and view the city at night from the river?

Depending where your flying to remember to make allowances in time for getting your next flight. If it's International the airlines generally suggest being at the airport 3 hours before your flight and an hour for domestic flights.

Cafe 21 at the Treasury Casino is open 24/7, so you could always get a bite to eat there too.

You could certainly do something during the 6.45pm arrival till midnight or so, perhaps catch a taxi into the City, it should be quite safe to have a look around and have dinner if there are 2 of you. Be mindful though the taxi fare will be about AUD$35 each way.

On your way back I'd be staying at the airport, and depending on which airline you are travelling with try to buy a guest pass into an airline lounge and have a rest. This of course depends on where you are flying from, I'd not suggest leaving the airport after arriving at midnight, unless you wanted to stay at one of the hotel/motels near the airport, but make sure you are back at the airport early enough for check-in usually 90mins -120mins for international and 60mins for domestic.

have a good trip
