The skeleton plan is:
5 or 6 nights Sydney (pick up a rental on last day)
1 or 2 nights in Blue Mountains
3 or 4 nights drive up coast to Brisbane (fly to Cairns)
4 or 5 nights Cairns and around - maybe hire another car? (fly to Whitsunday Islands)
3 nights Hamilton Island - or other GBR Island if more recommended. I've got fixed 3 nights here as my initial trawl of accommodation suggests we'll have a 3 night minimum.
We only have 18 nights so have to loose 2 nights from the max nights as per above and don't know which to choose.
There are 3 of us - self, OH (in our mid 50's) and 24 yr old daughter
We love cities, countryside & mountains - and most of all - the coast, beach and sea. We're not much on galleries or museums but do love historical sites (ie rather than collections of 'stuff') building and areas. We like the open spaces and crowded areas and people watching. We're big foodies and particularly love seafood.
We know we're going to love the above combination but would really appreciate some help to firm up numbers of nights in each place. I really want to see some indigenous wildlife and also can't wait to see some rainforest - which I have never seen before anywhere on my travels.
Looking forward to some replies (nb am also posting on Cairns, Brisbane and Whitsunday forum)
