11 hrs Layover at Brisbane - Things to do in evening?

Hi all,

I'll be having a 11 hours layover at Brisbane (315pm-2am) flying in from Melbourne. We will like to explore the city a bit and chill over a nice meal. Given the weird timing (evening/night time), I'm concern about transportation to and fro city to airport at night as I'm aware that buses and train closes early.

1) Any suggestions on transportation out of the airport and back to airport around night time to catch our flight?

2) Any recommendations on where we can visit and possibly dine at?

Appreciate all suggestions! Thank you! :)

Maybe a leisurely walk down towards Eagle St precinct might be the go, no rushing around and quite a few restaurants to suit different palates. Alternately, a quick hop on the train to South Bank for dinner.

At that time, the Air Train won't be operating so your only option back to the airport is a taxi.

Got any clues for us? Cuisine or age group or interests?

James St has bars, cafes etc and easy access to other dining areas... all are open late over the weekends and easy access to the airport by taxi. It's difficult to know what to recommend without a bit more info about you.

Should have also said ... get a taxi to Hamilton Ferry Terminal and grab a CityCat ride to downtown. It's a lovely way to see the city and fill in some time, the terminal is only 6 to 7 minutes from the airport and there are stops at Southbank (mentioned before) and the Riverside centre which bars and restaurants also ... if you are up for it a visit into the Botanical Gardens at night with a few apples you can hand feed native possums.

Kaylen,

The above responses are all excellent. Just to put some detail in, take a taxi to Portside Cruise Ship terminal. Its a new development on the river with bars, cafes, shops and a cinema. You can have a drink there and wander around and then walk 8 minutes along the river to Bretts Wharf City Cat terminal.

You can then choose whether to go to the end of the upstream City Cat route (University of Qld) and come back in to the city or just head direct to the city. The round trip will be around 1.20-1.30 depending where you get off. Direct will be 20-30 mins. Check out the timetables by googling translink city cat timetables.

As for where to get off, South Bank is nice but make sure you walk up and down Little Stanley Street (just a few metres back from the SouthBank parklands itself) before you decide where to eat - don't make the mistake of just staying right on the river because choices are limited (Stokehouse and the Jetty are 2 nice places along the river precinct). On little Stanley Street, you'll find Italian, Lebanese, Asian cuisine.

Alternatively, Riverside (just under the Story Bridge) has the more serious food options. Theres a great casual place right on the river (no reservations required) called the River Bar. Alternatiely, you've got the Bavarian Beer place more for drinking), an excellent Japanese, Greek, Mod Aus. Google Eagle Street Pier to see whats on offer. Walk upstream from Riverside/Eagle Street and you'll get to the Stamford Plaza which has a beautiful rivers front terrace where you can eat or just have a drink.

From there, its probably best to get a cab direct to the airport as I'm not sure how easy to would be to pick one up from Brett's Wharf (unless you pre-booked). Bear in mind though that unless its the weekend, most places will close early so you may struggle to find places going through to 11/12.

Enjoy
