Wynnum Anchor Motel / airport

Hi there, my family will be finishing our travels from Cairns to Brisbane on Sun 14th Dec and need to return our hire car that evening.

We are flying out of Brisbane at 08.30 on the Monday morning so end to be up and at the airport nice and early on the Monday morning and so we are looking for somewhere close by to stay for convenience, however as this is our last night in Oz we don't want to just be sat indoors at an airport motel room!

We have come across the Wynnum Anchor Motel, we are not at all worried that is basic there but thought the location that is walkable to the seafront for a last picnic dinner/BBQ looked good?

My question is how long will it take us to get to the airport from there first thing on Monday morning (would need to be taxi?) or if that area is likely to be awful with traffic then can you recommend somewhere else that's easily accessible to the airport but gives us something to do for our last night?

Our kids are 5,9 and 11, our budget is up to AU$200.

Many thanks!

Just to add fuel to the decision fire ... with young kids I'd suggest the Redcliffe area. It's 27 Kms to the airport, and has amazing beach playgrounds. You would be leaving around 6 in the morning so the traffic would not be too heavy that way. Wynnum is a nice area but I would definately choose Redcliffe over Wynnum.

Ah Thankyou able58, will have look there, am open to any suggestions that are easily accessible to the airport but still let us enjoy our last few hours there!

Do you have any idea how much a cab would cost roughly from redcliffe to the airport? we will need to get one up there from the car rental place in Nudgee on the Sunday night when we drop our car back so just need to allow for budget if cabs are very pricey in Brisbane area?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply :-)

It would be around $65 to $70 ... wouldn't it be quite a lot cheaper to keep the rental car for one more day? Even if you stayed in Wynnum it would work out cheaper.

Hi Sam. I live in nearby Manly and it won't take you long to get to the airport at all via port of Brisbane motorway and gateway motorway - it's nearly motorway all the way, 15-20 mins max.

From anchor motel walk south about 20 mins to Pandanus Beach for kids water park BBQ etc

Enjoy

thanks for that! When we booked the car we'd assumed we'd stay right by the airport so would have no justification for paying the out of hours return fee to take the car back in the morning but we'll look into that now we've changed our plans a little as sure the extra day and out of hours fee can't exceed 2 lots of $70!

Thanks again for your help, Redcliffe area does look lovely :-)
