The beaches are protected by the Great Barrier Reef, therefore no waves. You need to travel further south for surf beaches. ( Fraser Island, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast)

The Gold Coast has some of the best surfing beaches in the world. As mentioned unfortunately there are no waves in Nth Qld.

Average sea temp is around 21C (70F) so okay for swimming. The water temp will start to cool down as we head into our winter in June / July / August.

Hi

Sorry no waves on Cairns only when we have a cyclone hanging around, or you might get the odd wave a Trinity Beach when you can body surf in .Regards
