Eclipse 2012

I understand there has been little coverage about this up coming event in southern states. On the morning of November 14 the Cairns region will experience a total solar eclipse. At 6.38am the region will go into darkness after sunrise as the moon and sun meet. According to the dedicated websites the usual morning chirping of birds and other wild life will become silent, people will flock to the beach side to view this event which has not occurred in this region for nearly 2000 years. This total eclipse is so rare to occur in this area that an estimated 40-60 thousand people are expected to visit Cairns for the event. The Cairns region is one of the only land based access point to view this eclipse and the only place in Australia. It will only be visible within a small area with Port Douglas and Cairns being the vantage points. Visit www.eclipsecairns.com and eclipse2012.org.au for more info.

Update 2..

Cairns is very busy now, a week out from the Eclipse flights are full and accommodation is booked out, great to see the city of Cairns buzzing again. Streets are full of tourists, hire car businesses are booked, restaurants are full. Weather is perfect, lets just hope it stays this way for the Eclipse. Great time to be in Cairns.

There's still plenty of accommodation available throughout the whole region ... but you really need to be within driving distance and have your own car! Check out:-

www.wotif.com.au

Look up Daintree, Port Douglas, Cairns etc.

We hope to see you here!

Looking at the web site provided by Sunbird, Palm Cove must have a premium spot being very close to the centre line and on the beach.

Rob, anywhere along the beach will be premium spots and Palm Cove is definately a choice spot. Note there will be traffic restrictions in place so it is advised to plan ahead. www.eclipsecairns.com can provide visitors with updated traffic restrictions/road closures.
