Cairns 4 nights

Hi,

I am taking my mum and two kids (aged 9 and 6) to Cairns in April for 4 nights....any suggestions whether we should stay in Cairns itself or Palm Cove? We would like a 5 star accomodation.

We won't have access to a car.

We plan to do the day trips to Great Barrier Reef, the Train/Cable car and Daintree Forest.

Thanks

Hi,

With kids you would be best to stay in Cairns as there is heaps more to do.

For 5* accomm look at wotif to see what suits your budget. We always stay at the Shangri-La Hotel Marina.

wotif.com/hotels/australia-qld-cairns-hotels…

Plenty of activities for kids in Cairns -

The Cairns Swimming Lagoon is a massive crystal clear man made salt water swimming pool which the kids would love.

Muddy's Playground - children can run through ankle deep water and splash in the shallows. From rope bridges, flying fox, slides, play houses, story telling areas, to see-saws.

Emjoy walking The Cairns Esplanade boardwalk .

Cairns Skatepark is the biggest skatepark in all of Australia. It stretches 2300m2 and sits in the picturesque setting of the Cairns Esplanade overlooking the Coral Sea.

Take the Kuranda Scenic Railway up to Kuranda while viewing the world heritage rainforest.

Do a Cairns Great Barrier Reef Tours. - Green Island also offers Marineland Melanesia with crocodiles, tropical fish behind glass, stingrays and sharks all on show

Do a tour to the Daintree National Park.

Staying in Cairns probably more for the kids to do. Muddies is a great spot on the Esplanade. You will also have the use of the beautiful lagoon. I am not aware of a five star hotel in Palm Cove, actually, not in Cairns either. You are likely to have more choices in terms of tour operators visiting the places you want to see if you are in Cairns. Email Tourism Tropical North Queensland and ask for suggestions, they will put together some ideas for you and send you lots of brochures.

Try the Angsana in Palm Cove. It's a 5 star and right on the beach. In 4 days with those tours it's not too important where you stay as they'll pick you up and with so little spare time you won't be searching for things to do anyway.

Cairns does have a selection of 5 star hotels, so don't worry.

I'd definately choose Cairns over Palm Cove with kids of that age. Palm Cove is more of a couples destination and much more suitable for older kids who will do their own thing.
