Just for fun: Cargo ship cruise from Cairns

I recently went on a 5 day cargo ship cruise (MV Trinity Bay) from Cairns to Horn Island, Thursday Island and Seisia. It was such an interesting experience which I'd recommend to anyone wanting to do something just a little different.

Here are the first 2 posts from my blog, reporting (not always seriously) on the adventure.

What an adventure ! Look forward to the remaining blog instalments.

There have been a few enquiries about cargo ship travel over the years so it will be great to be able to refer people to your write up.

Hi Yvonne!

So just how sheltered from rough weather were you? I would love to go on a journey like that! I just don't really have sea legs.

Hi, every one! The waters were exceedingly calm, Macknee. One lady was really concerned about getting seasick, as it is one of her downfalls. She was smiling broadly and happily as we disembarked ship in Cairns. I guess it could get a bit rough in really stormy weather, but they don't take passengers when there is any danger of that.

PS MacKnee, I was just thinking of you the other day, and up you pop! I'm off to Venice next month, hurray!

I've looked into these cargo ships before and it sounds so great. My hubbie would love to do a cruise but too many people for me to be interested. Lou darwin

Lou, there were only 26 (out of a possible 48) on my trip. I guess this time of year is not quite as popular as during the cooler weather. (When you say "too many people", are you referring to a big cruise liner?)

Doug, thank you for you nice words about my blog. I'm soon going back to Venice, so I'll have some fresh inspiration.

I'm glad the seasick-prone lady didn't have any problems and enjoyed herself.

The transferring of the cargo to another ship sounds fascinating, though I'm sorry for whoever didn't get their pallet on time.

Have a great time in Venice Yvonne!

Here's a little bit more about the trip: …wordpress.com/2013/…

And, links to the blog of a reporter from a Cairns radio station. He was a passenger on this particular cruise, also.
