Mantra in the Village - Any recent reviews?

Hi Everyone

My husband & I are going to Australia in a few weeks. One of the hotels we are booked into is the Mantra in the Village - Port Douglas. I can't seem to find any reviews from 2007 for this hotel (even under it's old name of Outrigger). Does anyone have any updated information on it at all (already know the pool is quite small but hey - the beach is 4 miles long!).

We are in out late 30's but still like to go drinking - any recommendations on places to go at all (lively would be fab).

Hi Fran,

We're locals and whenever we stay in Port Douglas for a quick break we always stay at the ex-Outrigger now-Mantra Heritage which is right next door to the Mantra Village. We only stayed at the Village once and would not stay there again - our room was very noisy both from the street and from 'echoey' corridors. I realise this doesn't help as you have already booked! But perhaps we were just unlucky - the hotel is still very central and handy for everything.

The Heritage, although rather a rambling place, has a beautiful big pool area, the rooms - particularly the self-contained units - are large, modern and airy and as it is mostly set back from the main street all the rooms are very quiet. It's in the middle on Port and within mostly undercover (good for both hot sun and also heavy rain!) walking distance of all the shops and restaurants.

For a lively drinking place you can't go past the Courthouse Hotel - live music and excellent food at pub prices. And if it's a bit too noisy downstairs pop up to the lovely Sunset Bar on the top floor - big open verandahs and a nice view.

For one of the best views in town, plus good food at reasonable prices definitely the Combined Clubs right on the water.

Also Soul 'n Pepper again right by the water.

Have fun!

Cheers - Daphne

Soul'n'Pepper currently closed ....

Fluid nightclub as well.

Iron Bar, Paddy's Bar and the two hotels, Central and the Courthouse share the entertainment between them, also sometimes a guitarist at On the Inlet.

Best food at Sassi's at Bale, Salsa and Bistro 3, although all relatively pricey. At the other end of the spectrum, try Mocka's Pies, actually next door to Mantra Village!
