Daintree |Forest Tours

We are planning on spending 3 nights in Port Douglas in November. I have booked with Haba for a dive trip and am considering booking a Raintree Forest tour. I hope the weather cooperates xxx

Thought about renting a car and doing the drive ourselves but also do not want to miss out on the knowledge a tour guide operator can share. There are 3 adults travelling together. Can anyone recommend a smaller group touring company that would show us a great time.

Any other suggestions for places to eat, drink, etc...

I have read her on TA other travellers giving Tony's Tours a good report. It is reviewed on the 'More on Port Douglas' on the left of the page and click ' Things to do" There are other Tours of the Rainforest listed here and most have good reviews.

There are trip reviews on the Port douglas /Cairns site which will also help you decide.

And maybe the Cairns DE will be able to answer shortly.

With three of you, it would be quite good value to hire a car and head up to Daintree and on to Cape Tribulation, some reasonably priced cottages right at the cape www.capetribbeach.com.au that may suit and there's various boardwalks along the way and at the Cape you can do yourself, trail notes available from epa/ranger stations and if you feel like extending yourself, try a clamber up Mt.Sorrow.

In addition there are some guided walks available including night spotting walks.

Alternately, if you do decide on a tour be prepared to pay for a decent one as many are not much more than a tourist bus with cowboy drivers.

http://www.daintree-specialised-tours.com/ offer a range of more off the tourist trail tours and be a few more like that which may be worth considering.

I would opt for hiring a car and driving to the Daintree Village - across the Daintree River to the National Park and onward to Cape Tribulation.

Hwever, if you are uncomfortable about doing it yourself then plenty of tours are available.

As G/B mentioned Tony's Tropical Tours is a fab tour company which comes with great recommendations.

The other one which tourists enjoy is

We did a tour with Pete Baxendell of Daintree Specialised Tours (as listed above) a couple of weeks ago. It was quite good.

We were referred by Pete's to Billy Tea Tours out of CNS. Pete was not available on our available dates. Billy Tea was great and covered a lot in the day. Although they are out of CNS they pick up in Port Doug as well.

Thanks for all your replies.

Do you think I need to book these tours ahead or book them once we arrive in PD?

I now wish we had more than 3 nights in PD but have already booked our flights to Hamilton Island on the 4th day.

You should be able to book with Billy Tea on arrival, it has a fleet of 4WD vehicles. As opposed to Pete Baxendell who just has the one, he often needs about 6 weeks lead time.
