Raintree Tour Necessary?

IS the rainforest Raintree tour necessary to absorb all the sights and activities of the area, or can one manage self guided?

Thanks

This site https:/…index.html will give you a decent introduction to Daintree National Park. It's an easy drive from Port Douglas and if you're armed with a map and a couple of pamphlets you'll have a lovely time just stopping here and there at scenic spots. Of course having a tour guide usually means you learn more about what you're looking at. If you scroll about halfway down through the link above, there's another link to various tours and guided walks you can arrange once you're in the park. That would work out cheaper than doing a whole organised tour from Port Douglas. Just check to see whether they're running if you're planning to visit in the wet season. Some places close down due to lower tourist numbers (and rain!) between December and March.

SydneyStephen gave some good advice about touring Daintree on your own. While I have heard great things about many of the organized tours, they can be prohibitively expensive, especially if you have a family. We've been to Daintree a few times and having done some research and armed with a map and brochures as recommended, we had some great days. We did self-guided walks on the boardwalks and really enjoyed the flora and fauna. (I don't need to know what every plant and animal I see is to appreciate it.) We also made sure to stop at the Daintree Ice Cream company for a unique and tasty afternoon treat.

Where do you obtain your map and info on the boardwalks? We have great fun doing things on our own and very often bonus unexpected things happen, particularly when you think you're lost. Thanks.
