Port Douglas - Good take out or prepared food?

Will be in Port Douglas for Xmas and would prefer to have dinner in apartment we rented rather than going out. Any recommendations for grocery or deli which would have nicer holiday type meal we could purchase before and have in our room?

Port Douglas has a HUGE Coles Supermarket - lovely fresh food, fruit, vegetables, freshest seafood, bread (their Parmesan and Onion bread sticks are lovely!) and a great deli range which includes a lot of semi-prepared meals. I'm sure they'll have plenty of Christmas fare!

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Thanks Daphne.

Sounds just like what we need to stock up on Christmas trimmings. Hope Coles is on the bus route.

Looking forward to Xmas in the southern hemisphere!

Just not sure I'll be adding much vegemite onto the dishes though.

Thank you too! Coles is right in the middle of town on the main Macrossan Street - walking distance to everywhere, although some accommodation is a little out of town but there are shuttle buses. Where are you staying?

Ah the old Vegemite saga! Most non-Aussies make the big mistake of using too much. For instance on one slice of buttered bread you would only use perhaps a quarter of a teaspoon - spread it so thinly that it almost disappears. Too much ... and yuck!

For christmas I rather like a take away to get nice food already prepared and ready to eat!

Not many places are doing take away but I've been eating twice at bel cibo (nice place next to the commonwealth bank on the main st) and you can get the whole menu take away. The food is just great, especially the scallops and the barramundi!

Enjoy!
