Prawns , Paw paw & Mangoes

Such a delicacy for us Kiwis. We really enjoyed them on a previous visit in October, but the question is will we savour them again on our next trip in May? Is there a season in the tropics , and if so what other delights may we enjoy ?

Thanks

You won't get mangoes in May, it's mango season now. Had a few myself lately - yum!

You'll get prawns and paw paw. Our paw paw tree seems to bear fruit year round as long as we don't get a cold (well cold for us) winter in Brisbane.

We will be in Port Douglas in mid March.

Will there be plenty of prawns and mangoes around then?

Where do we find them, and will they be cheap?

Looking for a good feed, not a restaurant where they just give you half dozen on a plate please.

Thanks,

The peak mango season in North Qld is usually November to January, but hopefully there will still be some around in mid March.

Do you want to buy fresh prawns from a shop, if so try Port Douglas Seafood House in Warner Street.

I have no idea of the current price in PD, but in Brisbane around $20-25 kg for local tiger prawns ( a bit smaller than king prawns)

Hopefully one of the locals there will be able to let you know.

Try "On the Inlet" Great seafood place on the water, near the marina
