Daintree Accommodation Feb 07

I have enquired about accommodation during February at Cape Trib Exotic Fruit Farm and also at Daintree Escape, but unfortunately both have said that they will be closing for February. Can anyone recommend an alternative that would be similar to either of these? We would not want to spend over about $130 a night and would ideally like to be in a private cottage/cabin and not in a room in a main house. Does anyone know if the fishing tours in the Daintree will still be running in February?

The main reason why many of us do close in February is that it is usually our wettest, and most unpredictable, month of the year. (That can, of course, change each year!) Although there are also lovely sunny days there can be days of VERY heavy rain with localised flooding when many roads, particularly around Daintree and Cape Tribulation, can be cut off, although usually only for a day or two - but enough to be a problem if you have a plane to catch!

If you don't have a strict timetable it really is a great time to visit the wet tropics - pleasant and cool while it's raining (and there's nothing like the sight, sound and even smell of warm tropical rain) although it does get hot and steamy when the sun comes out - just make sure your accommodation is air-conditioned, your car certainly will be, so you can still be comfortable!

It is our quietest 'visitor' time but you will find many accommodation places do stay open during the 'wet' (some call it the 'green') season so I would suggest just keeping an eye on the weather forecasts if you are in Cairns, Port Douglas etc. and booking places in Daintree and Cape Tribulation at the last minute. For accommodation ideas you might like to look at www.daintreevillage.asn.au and also www.daintreecoast.com.

As for fishing tours that again really depends upon the weather - if the Daintree River happens to be in flood then obviously there won't be any fishing!

Thanks for your advise Sunbird, with only a couple of days available to see the Daintree anyway, I think we will play it by ear and see what the weather's like when we get there. Fingers crossed for some sunshine and not too much rain!!
