First Time to Australia....

...we tried to resist but you got us eventually!

So start of November will see an excited mum, dad, mother in law, and little daughter (6) fly into Gold Coast airport. We have absolutely nothing planned other than we are there for 4 nights before we nip off to stay in a timeshare at Tangalooma.

The only thing we would like to do is visit Zoo Australia for a day. Perhaps a day in Brisbane too?

Would really appreciate any advice or recommendations on where to stay in the area and how we would go about getting up to the zoo at Beerwah, please.

Thinking of throwing ourselves into the thick of it (Surfer's?) as we will have 6 days on Morton island in which to do jolly all all day and night.

Any advice on Tangalooma appreciated, too.

Thanking you all in advance,

Cloakey

Hi mate, what sort of budget are you looking for your accomodation?

Ranges from back packers to 5 star all the way.

Something close to the beach?

Hi there cobber,

Just your normal family budget. I guess no more than a coupla hundy a night. Have no idea of Gold coast but would assume we would have a look at a beach.

Thanks mate,

Cloak

Your best way to travel from the Gold Coast to Australia Zoo is by car. The trip will take approx 90 mins depending on where you are staying at the Coast. Perhaps look at hiring a car from Coolangatta and making the most of your 4 days on the Coast.

Accommodation at Burleigh Heads or Broadbeach would be my suggestion. You will be able to rent a self catering apartment.

I would maybe split your time:

Stay on the Gold Coast then head up to Brisbane for a night or 2 and take the day trip to Australia Zoo from Brisbane (less total travel time on that day). Then just head to Moreton Island from Brisbane.

Hiring a car would be the best way to go. As mentioned it is a fair way to Beerwah ( about 180 ks from Coolangatta) and would take up to 2 hours.

Thanks for all the help thus far.

Looks like 2 nights GC and 2 in city. How about the train to the Zoo?

Cheers,

Travelling by Rail

The QR Citytrain has a seven-day service that operates between the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Beerwah. For more information, check out translink.com.au/ or phone 13 12 30 for the train timetable.

The Australia Zoo courtesy coach meets most trains at the Beerwah Rail Station to transfer passengers to the Zoo. If the bus is not at the station, simply call the Zoo on 5436 2000 and a bus will be sent out for your convenience.

Please check the Translink site for ticket prices.

If you think about driving, be aware that we drive on the LHS (by and large) except out bush where you drive in the middle!
