Advice of itinerary

Hi, we are a family with young kids (4 y.o. girl and 9 y.o. boy) travelling free & easy to Gold Coast and this is the travel itinerary we have in mind. Please advise if we have missed out any place you would highly recommend or furnish us with any tips on our travel plans, including recommended restaurants.

Day 1 (Friday) Arrive at airport at 8am --> Currumbin Wildlife Park

Day 2 (Saturday) Carrara Market (morning), Harbour Town (afternoon)

Day 3 (Sunday) Drive to Brisbane --> Queensland Museum South Bank (overnight in Brisbane)

Day 4 (Monday) Drive to Australia Zoo (Evening: drive back to Gold Coast accommodation)

Day 5 (Tuesday) Sea World (our little girl, who is nuts over dinosaurs, wants to visit Dinosaur Island)

Day 6 (Wednesday) Mt Tambourine (Thunderbird Park to do thunder egg fossicking - our boy's idea), Surfers Paradise Night Market

Day 7 (Thursday) Dream World

Day 8 (Friday) Easter Celebration at Surfers Paradise (morning), beach activities or in the event of wet weather, shopping (afternoon)

Day 9 (Saturday) Depart Gold Coast early this morning

Many thanks!

Excellent plan.

Have you considered one evening dinner/show at Outback Spectacular.

Carrara markets are not as good as used to be. Also got some bad press recently for penalising stall holders who chose not to attempt to travel to and open during floods. Why not take a drive (1hr south on motorway but option of longer scenic Tweed coast or inland roads) to Byron Bay that day, see the lighthouse on the most easterly point of Australian mainland, a great walk, not too hard for children. You could fit Harbour Town in later in the trip.

Hi dev1236, thanks for your suggestion on Outback Spectacular. We are indeed considering that too, but are worried our little girl might not be interested. We thought of Carrara Market as the website advertised kid's activities and Luke's Reptile Kingdom. How is the flood situation now? It would not be too cold in mid-end Mar, would it? We are just thinking of packing fleece jackets for the nights, would that be sufficient? Coming from Singapore where the weather is typically between 28 to 33 degree celsius, we are used to humid and warm weather. Thanks again!

I missed the floods this time around, as I was traveling in Thailand/Singapore. All is fine though heavy rain this week is suggesting a risk of further flooding on the weekend. I wouldnt expect any problems in March, and hopefully still nice warm weather....a bit later in the year night can get chilly on the Gold Coast. I left Singapore at 21.30 hrs and dressed in shorts sleeves and felt comfortable at 8am arriving Gold Coast same - if you are flying Scoot you might wish for those jackets on the flight, not in your checked luggage.

Yes, we are hoping for good weather. Nothing is more dampening than horrid weather when on vacation. We will carry on our fleece jackets, we will be arriving at 8 a.m. in Gold Coast too as we are also using Scoot (for the first time!) Thanks for sharing!

Hi there,

Day 8 Friday: Afternoon activities in the event of wet weather - Just keep in mind that if this is Good Friday, shops & other places may not be open.

Otherwise your planning sounds great.

Hi Karen, thanks for highlighting, we weren't aware the malls might not be open. Are there anything we might be able to do on Good Friday then? =) Thanks!

I was going through the websites of the shopping malls and noticed that Harbour Town would be closed on Good Friday but there was no mention at the Robina Town Centre website. Would I be right to assume that Robina Town Centre would be open on Good Friday then? Would the restaurants generally be open on that day? Thanks! =)
