Dunk or Daydream ?

I am wanting to spend 5 days in the Whitsundays but can not decide between Dunk Island or Daydream Island. It is a special occasion - Silver wedding anniversary. We are not so much water people but love fine dining and relaxing and sunshine. Time of year will be July. Can anyone help? Even better if you have stayed on both islands. Thanks, Jo

Have been to Dunk (not Daydream). If you are going in early to mid July, it will be school holidays and both islands will be full of families with kids. Daydream is a small island, so on the basis that you can obtain greater privacy on Dunk it may be a better option. The main restaurant on Dunk is NOT fine dining, however, the latest review refers to another restaurant, that assuming it is open may offer a better dining experience. For true fine dining - Orpheous would be worth a look.

I have stayed on Daydream island 3 times (with and without children).

I think that it would be perfect for a relaxing time away for your anniversary.

We have also just booked a holiday to Dunk, however not for travel until August.

A friend has been to Dunk and stated that they ran out of things to do, although loved it all the same.

5 days on Daydream would be enjoyable, however there may be alot of families around being school holidays.

I have been to Daydream and enjoyed it but 4 days (with one of those a full day trip off the island) was long enough. I don't think you will find fine dining in either place, you may be better suited to Hamilton or Hayman.Good luck...

I know both islands ...both are very different...to me Daydream is more suited for families whilst Dunk is too but its much bigger Island than Daydream so its easier to have privacy.

Dunk offers more activities...a good golf course/ tennis courts/ walking tracks/ all water sports etc.etc. (my review with pics).

Other islands to consider for a special occassion.

Hayman Island www.hayman.com.au

Bedarra Island www.bedarraisland.com

Wilson Island www.voyages.com.au

Lizard www.lizardisland.com.au www.voyages.com.au

Both Islands have their positives/negatives. Daydream Island for close proximity to other islands including whithaven beach etc.etc.

i would not stay at dunk island

we went there for 6 days in sept 08

we stayed in the beach front suite,

low tide all you see is brown mud,

cain toads and very very poor service.

the breakfast was great, however the other

places to eat there were very bad.

you can get better food at your local take away shop.

we had seafood dinner there one night, $76.00 each

for frozen prawns with black heads, no taste.

i was shocked at how rubbish there food was.

drinks very pricey, pina colada $17.00

cup of stir fry noodles $15.00

hamburger $17.00

spirit cans $10.00

beer $8.00

so called wood fired pizza's that were cooked with gas. $22.00 small

highway robbery

i can buy fresh seafood better in nsw

hire boat, gives you rusty old hooks that break and lose your fish.

would never ever go there again !!!!!!!

I still think Hamilton island would offer you most of the variety of fine dining, activities and things to do, plus the only airport in Whitsundays is on Hamo too. Check www.hamiltonisland.com.au to get more info so you can make an informed decision
