Which is the best island to take a famility to?

we are wanting to take a trip to an island off QLD. Went to cairns a few years ago & took a trip to Green Island. Loved it, but Green Island seems to be too expensive for us. We want to stay on an island where there is coral & fish close to the beach to snorkel around. We are planning to stay 5 nights. Somewhere as quiet as possible to laze around and catch up with our kids (boy 16, girl 14 & a girl 11). We were thinking about Fitzroy Island looking pretty good and the kids loved the idea of the water trampoline and the paddle boats, but if anyone who knows more about the islands has a better suggestion, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks,

Leeza

Have a look at some options up in the Whitsundays Islands, just out from Airlie Beach.

Hamilton Island is quite large - quite a few hotels and restaurants in the touristy area, and houses, school, etc on the island as well. Plenty of options for activities - best bet is to hire a golf buggy for your stay so you can whip around the island at will.

I recently had a week on Daydream Island - a much smaller island which is one single resort. There are a few accommodation options, plenty of organised activities for kids, grown ups and inbetweens. It's small enough to feel safe letting the kids wander around on their own. One side of the island is set up for small tour boats to visit (a couple of small shops and cafes), and the other side is purely for resort guests.

There are also plenty of day trips out to the reefs from both islands.
