camping equipment hire

Hello,

We are planning a trip to Fraser Island in September and would like to hire camping equipment. Does anyone know if we can hire equipment in Hervey Bay without hiring a vehicle? We are driving in from Brisbane so just planned to rent 4wd there. However, I'm finding it difficult to hire equipment without the vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any advice is appreciated!

Hi DD,

try this site it states " Don't have your own camping equipment? No problem!

We can provide all the necessary camping gear for your island adventure with full packs available. Sleeping bags and single items also available. "

Hi,

I think Bay 4wd now hires "camper trailers" .. with all the gear .. otherwise try AussieTrax ...

There are some operators in Brisbane who won't allow you to take their 4WDs onto Fraser Island. Make sure you clearly state to the hire company that that is your intention.

Seems silly I know but it's been identified in previous posts as a problem that some travellers have experienced.

You can also get trailers from below just depends on the type of gear you are after.http://www.rentarig.com.au/trailers.php

Thanks for all of the input. Now we are having second thoughts about the Fraser Island portion of our trip as we have no way of getting from Brisbane to Fraser without renting a car and can't afford to then rent another when we get to Hervey Bay. A bus is out of the question as time is a limiting factor. Any ideas for quick transport from Brisbane to Hervey Bay? Thanks again!

Only flying but I can't see that being cheaper than hiring a car.

You can fly Qantas-Link from Brisbane to Hervey Bay... or take the tilt-train (ticket to Hervey Bay includes a bus-link from Maryborough) ...

Why don't you look at some of the excellent 2 day guided trips to Fraser... these trips are very reasonable and exellent trips... you also have whales in Hervey Bay in Sep... it will be worth the effort to do a 2 day Fraser trip and 1/2 day Whale watch... once you arrive you won't need a vehicle in HB as all the tours offer free transfers from your accomm... and there are a number of courtesy buses for restaurants etc..
