Fraser Island, DIYbor tour

We're going to be visiting Fraser Island int he middle of October and want to know what the best way to see Fraser Island is?

An organised tour? A DIY trip?

If we do a DIY trip can we take out own vechile onto the island? And if so, can I be a campervan? Do they have facilities for this?

Sorry for all the questions

Hi Bibi,

Unless your vehicle is a 4wd with high clearance I would NOT take a campervan to Fraser Island (and if it is a motorhome style van you will not be allowed on the barge with it). There are no roads and certainly no facilities for vans on the island (although there are numerous camp grounds).

There are a lot of forum posts in this forum that deal with self-drive vs tours, and single day vs multi-day tours that would help with your planning .. it would be best if you did some research in the forum and asked some specific questions .. organised vs self-drive depends a lot about what type of traveller you are, what type of experiences you enjoy, the time you have available, how many of you & age demographic (any kids) and your intended budget...

I generally recommend if it is your first time on the island, you should do a guided tour, and if you self-drive you need a minimum 2 days, but preferably 3 days / 2 nights or more ...
