Lizard Island in January???

Getting ready for a big honeymoon trip and had to do a last minute change based on the recent turmoil in Thailand. Will be in Sydney and we're looking to travel to a once in a lifetime beach resort to relax for five days in the beginning of January. We're getting scared of the "rainy season" everywhere we've looked (Fiji, Bora Bora, etc), and were looking for a real answer on how much it actually rains- just in the afternoon, all day long, etc???

Any help that you have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Lizard Island is amazing any time of the year! 5 star everything.

In the tropics around Cairns and Daintree area I would describe the rainy season as "unpredicable". It may be wonderful sunny conditions for the whole time you are visiting, or it could rain the entire time. Its so hard to be able to say with any certainty. To give you the figures/answer you request, the offical rain statistics for Port Douglas is just over 2 meters annually. Around 75% of that rainfall occurs in the wet season (which lasts from Christmas to Easter).

It depends how much importance you are placing on the local weather...if you are happy just to take the chance, visit a stunning part of Austalia, and be satisfied to relax and read a book if the weather is rainy then DEFINATELY visit Lizard Island!!! It really is amazing! However if you really are worried, you may want to investigate islands further south down Queensland coast with less likihood of lots of rain, such as Stradbroke Island, Moreton Island and Fraser Island. I'm sure other posters will offer more suggestions.
