The Things to Do - top left hand corner - gives a very good overview of what visitors have enjoyed. It depends on your interests :-)

Personally, if you are basing yourself in Adelaide I'd go with a visit to Mt Lofty, Stirling and just the Hills generally; Hahndorf; McLaren Vale, day trip to the Barossa; drive along the coast to view the magnificent cliffs at Noarlunga and wander around the city itself viewing the magnificent old buildings on North Terrace for example and all of the fabulous gardens. Just a starter...

A little hard to say without knowing a bit more about your likes, physical ability, transportation arrangements, budget.. etc. Do you like scenery or history and culture? do you have a car? do you like to hike/bushwalk? do you enjoy wine tasting or not? are you beach lovers? Art lovers?

There are a lot of general "must sees" but it really depends on your own tastes. Can you let us know the types of things you enjoy and we can then produce a list of suggestions which will be far more suited than generalisations. Thanks!

As an Adelaidian I always recommend staying in the city preferable in an apartment where you have cooking options and go the central markets for fabulous food. Catch the free tram to North Terrace visit the library, museums and art gallery ( all free) keep going along North Terraces' lovely old buildings to the Botanic Gardens and then wander back along the Torrens Lake. For wine tasting visit to the Barossa Valley or Mclaren Vale for great reds (an hour north and south of Adelaide) and the Adelaide Hills

1/2 hour east of Adelaide) for great whites and for lovely scenery, Stop in at Stirling and Mt Lofty while you are there. If you like bush walking Morialta Conservation Park is a beautiful park of natural bushland and a spectacular gorge, 15minutes east of the city. The waterfall run 10 months of the year (except mid summer) its an easy walk to the falls. You will nearly always see a koala in the trees and a bus runs from the city to the park. Hallett Cove in the South (20minutes from the city) also has a spectular cliff top (safe) walking track overlooking the sea. That is just a snapshot . There are so many more things to see. It is a great little city, easy to get around and fabulous climate.

Hi Ann!

Here's a few of the things we liked. I'll try to emphasize the ones that I didn't see on anybody else's lists:

- The Adelaide Botanical Gardens. A beautiful spread of Australian flora and trees right in the city, and a splendid contrast with the busy streets that lie just a few feet away.

- Glenelg, metro Adelaide's most popular beach. Glenelg is not a sleepy seaside village. The main street of Glenelg, Jetty, boasts a host of restaurants, shopping, and a tram direct from downtown Adelaide. The young and trendy swarm it, especially on weekend evenings. If you luck out with a warm day and a breeze off the land, you can add a beach day!

- Cleland Wildlife Park, Adelaide's best for seeing Australian animals. You can feed the kangaroos and pet the koalas.

- At night, you can do a different kind of wildlife visit, this one in Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary. Warrawong offers guided nocturnal visits. You might even see a platypus!

- Lake Torrens, created by damming the river of the same name, is pleasant for walking. It's a popular early morning jaunt for locals along the water, with plenty of bird life as well as people-watching.

- Chinatown and the City Market. Off Grote Street. Even if you aren't interested in buying farm produce, the big market is worth the look, especially if you're in town Saturday morning when it's crowded with shoppers. Adjoining, Chinatown is small but scenic, and an excellent place for a tasty, moderately-priced lunch with plenty of choice.

- Like to see the most magnificent wildlife location on the entire continent? Well, it isn't actually on the continent! Kangaroo Island is a 45 minute ferry ride from the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula, which in turn us about an hour's non-stop drive from Adelaide. On the island, which is almost 100 miles long -- it's not a zoo or amusement park -- we saw large numbers of kangaroos and wallabies in the wild, seals, sea lions, echidnas and even koalas. And these are wild animals, not captives in a zoo!

Kangaroo Island is not cheap, but we found it highly rewarding. If you're this close and don't go, you'll certainly kick yourself afterward for missing the opportunity!

Happy travels!

David

Take a couple of Free bikes and enjoy the park lands or ride the Linear trail to West Beach, and continue to Henley beach for a snack.

Agree with the above stay in the CBD in an apartment as most things to do are close at hand.

As a local for me you need to look at;

1 - A wine tour (Barossa or McClaren Vale)

2 - Glenelg Beach - take the tram from King William Street

3 - Rundle Street or Norwood - dining and shopping precincts

4 - Cleland Wildlife Park

5 - Victor Harbour and Port Elliot day trip - make sure you get out to Granite Island

6 - realx for fine asian (Nu Thai) or tapas (Mesa Lunga) on Gouger Street

Enjoy your stay
