We just returned on the 14th from 12 days touring -we did 1917klms (3rd trip). Prices varied obviously depending where you fill up. Most country prices were around $156.9 per lt, cheapest was at Lauderdale (sth Hobart suburb) - $155.9 and dearest was on Bruny Island (unfortnately we were getting low) paid $171.9 so just did a small top up.

Hope this gives you an idea. We spent a total of $265 on petrol whilst travelling in a Nissan X-Trail 4WD. Hubby thought it was quiet economical considering we did a lot of back roads, dirt forest roads, and hilly countryside.

Cheers

Campervans are fine for travelling around Tasmania. there are plenty of places to park, besides the many Caravan and Camping spots. Buy personal insect repellant! Depending on how many people are coming as campervans are generally only large enough for two people, unless you go for a larger motor home.

What time of year are you expected to travel. You have to work out the cost of hiring a campervanagainst the cost of a car.

Generally a car will cost less in fuel for the mileage. Then you have to offset this against the cost of a cabin at a caravan and camping park or budget motel. Not sure what the Park fees are for a campervan.

THe biggest plus for a campervan is that you can park in a quiet spot when you find one or if you are too tired. Councils are trying to discourage this.
