It looks like a good plan for a big circle around the state.

I think you have overloked a few worthwhile things on the trip. Take a browse through these Top 10 Must See lists and you'll find some worthwhile extras:

tripadvisor.com.au/GoListDetail-i23124-Luigi…

tripadvisor.com.au/GoListDetail-i23143-Luigi…

tripadvisor.com.au/GoListDetail-i23142-Luigi…

For example, I'd add the Wall in the Wilderness and the Wilderness Railway (and I'd delete Grindelwald).

You've got at least an extra day in there. For example, it's only 40 minutes from Narawntapu to Devonport and I'd spend that somewhere other than Devonport. The animals come out at Narawntapu early in the morning and the beach itself won't be much good in May. See a bit more of the north. :)

Yes; it will rain in any given 16 day period in May - most likely while you're on the west coast. And there's snow on the high mountains today already. :)

Thankyou "Luigi" for your tips.

Wall in the Wilderness looks interesting and we might have an extra night in Strahan to fit in the railway as it looks like a fairly major attraction.

I'm hoping for snow as i've only seen it once - hopefully Cradle Mountain might have some!!!

Hi Shelley,

Agree with Luigi, look at his Top 10's. Lots of info available on them.

IMO give the Grindelwald a miss, and spend more time north. Possibly on your way from the east go via Bridstowe Lavendar Farm -

http://www.bridestowelavender.com.au/

Also instead of Gordon Dam another option is to head south to the Huon area.

Safe travels - Robert

Hi again,

Forgot to mention Cradle Mountain had plenty of snow on the weekend, but it is thawing rapidly. But there's a very good possibility of snow by the time you get here.

Safe travels - Robert

Thankyou for your ideas

Bridestowe Lavender farm looks good - will add it to the list.

We hope to have some time to explore the Huon area when we visit the Tahune Airwalk.

Your itinerary looks great - here are a few more ideas:

* when you come off the ferry, drive to Ulverstone for morning tea. This is a nice seaside town with a lovely beach

*make sure you book the Gordon River Cruise

*try and fit in a walk around Battery Point ( the suburb adjacent to Salamanca Market full of 1850's workers cottages and some mansions/ Jackson and McRoss is a nice place for coffee/ visit Arthur's Circus - a group of tiny cottages)

*walk around the docks near Salamanca- fish punts, mures or fish frenzy are all nice for a meal of fish and chips

Orford - when you get to the bridge, turn right towards Spring Bay - a 5 minute drive to a beautiful beach and a view of Maria Island - it doesn't look like you have time to visit Maria Island but if you change your mind you catch the ferry from the town along from Orford called Triabunna

*on the way out of St Helens visit St Columbia Falls - its about 15 minutes walk from the carpark / the Pub In the Paddock is fascinating and you will pass the turn off on the way from St Helen's to devonport

Weather will be variable and cold but you will still have a great time.

Looks like a great itinerary. You've done plenty of research. Wall in the Wilderness should be a definite. I'd also add Huon valley and the Airwalk. Perhaps stay down that way, even Dover, for exploring that region, rather than day trips from Hobart. Lavender farm would be worth while, remembering that it only flowers Dec/ Jan and from beginning of May they change their opening hours- check on this.

And don't forget about the wonderful produce that Tassie has on offer, so as you drive around try and sample some of the cheeses, chocolate, mushrooms, honey's, wines, fresh salmon and sea foods etc. May will be cool but still spectacular. Something different around every corner as the landscape changes.

Have a wonderful trip with lots of memories.

Cheers

Thanks Rob, yes countdown is on. Now thurs evening-so 4 more sleeps then we'll be sleeping in Tassie for 8 nights. But we are doing the non-touristy things, exploring wilderness etc in the west so hope the weather is reasonebly kind to us, and not much time or in the right area for much of tassie's local produce, but will pick up what we can in Hobart.

Will have to compete with all the fantastic descriptive reports of people's recent trips, but will certainly put fingers to the keyboard when I can.

Cheers.
