Tarkine Rainforest

Hello!

I will be travelling to Tasmania with a friend next week and would like to spend a day in the Tarkine Rainforest. I'm having a difficult time finding any tour groups or group activities though--most tour companies seem to be geared toward people who either aren't very physically inclined or who have multiple days to devote to exploring the rainforest. We'd really like to do something physical (not just cruise down the river)... maybe hiking, kayaking, ziplining, etc. Does anyone know of an affordable tour company that may offer somthing adventurous?

Thank you!

Sara Jean

The Tarkine is quite "natural" and is not well endowed with those "developed" kinds of activities.

This website has tabs to some good activities in the Tarkine, but I agree that most of the hiking tours are multi-day. But have a look anyway: http://www.discoverthetarkine.com.au/

OK, I like walks/treks/hikes, but not overly in to extra physical stuff, but have you look at the Cradle/Tiers area. There are some very trying walks and some adventures you may like?

Just some thoughts.

On our trip nearly 12 months ago, we stayed at Corinna, which is on the southern edge of the Tarkine. Gorgeous area. Loads of lovely walks, mirror image river for photography etc. Have a look at their website www.corinna.com.au, which lists some unique experiences eg kayaking. You haven't indicated where you are staying etc, but an overnight stay there would be fabulous. This lead may give you some other ideas.

Cheers,

Thank you everyone for your help! We're only going to be in the Tarkine for the day (we're staying in Devonport the night before, and driving to Derwent Bridge right after and staying there). Those websites were very helpful and gave some great ideas for hikes.

Thanks again!
