10 days wildlife holiday in Tasmania in December

Please could you give me some advice about a 10 night wildlife trip to Tasmania? I have read the best places to see platypus and Tasmanian devils and want to stay at the Loogana Mountain valley wilderness cabins. The Peppers cradle mountain lodge seems to be the best place for wombats and it looks like we can see penguins in lots of places. it would be nice to see some beautiful scenery so Wineglass bay seems a must do as well as the Tamar valley and Cataract gorge. I'd love to see Echidnas and Quolls and some of the harder to see mammals. Are there some hidden wildlife gems that we should plan into our trip. Thank you in advance for your help. All of Tassie looks amazing that its hard to know which places to focus on!

Echidnas are the kind of creature that you just stumble upon in the bush, so you may find them anywhere - but you may also see none. It may be a good idea to plan a trip via a wildlife park that has some. Bonorong near hobart is good, as is Trowunna and both have echidnas. Platypus House at Beauty Point also has one that wanders around the place.

Quolls will be very hard to find in the wild as they are quite secretive. Again, you'll need to visit one of those wildlife parks to be sure of seeing them.

And a fast boat trip around the Tasman Peninsula would find fur seals, dolphins and maybe whales.

You'll also find Bennett's Wallabies just about everywhere you are going and Bonorong has 100s of Forrester kangaroos.

Thank you for your help. we are thinking anticlockwise from Hobart. Staying in Coles bay, then bay of fires and spending 5 nights in the north as there seems to be so much wildlife to see there and then down to Strahan. We are just trying to work out if its worth breaking up the trip with a night in Tarraleah on the way back to Hobart. Also we are worried if we will be tired after the long journey to get to Tassie from the UK and if we should stay somewhere near the airport the first night so we don't have to drive too far when tired. But the accommodation in Sorrel is not too exciting.

Best place to see devils is with Kings Run Private Wildlife Tour. Saw lots of Roo's and Wombats in Narawntapu National park.

To see wombats in a real pretty setting, head out to Ronny Creek car park (road to Cradle Mtn from the lodge) and walk the boardwalk. we saw so many and some with tiny babies, very very cute.

We saw quite a number of echidnas on our trip around Tassie in January - about 10 in total. Most in the Cradle Mountain region. It's fairly uncommon to see them in other parts of Aust, even though they are around. We saw one along the roadside driving to Ronnie Creek which is as previously mentioned a great place to see wombats. And another around cradle mountain lodge.
